New Air Freighter Service

Last week, PT Rusky Aero Indonesia, a newly launched cargo airline doing business as Raindo United Services, signed lease agreements for two 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters (BCF).

The 737-800-BCF freighter is a standard-size passenger aircraft that has been overhauled for dedicated cargo operations, typically operated on short- and medium-haul shuttle routes. Both planes will be outfitted with Boeing modification kits, which include a large cargo door, protective cockpit barrier, rugged cabin lining and floor trusses to support heavy containers.

The planes will be converted in China. The first passenger-to-freighter conversion will be completed by Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co. Ltd. (BSAS), and the second by Taikoo (Shandong) Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd. (STAECO). Each will have a capacity of 23 tons.

The lease agreements were signed with Dublin-based aviation leasing company AerCap (NYSE: AER). In January, AerCap Cargo marked the delivery of its 50th 737-800 cargo conversion from Boeing. AerCap customers include Amazon Air, GOL Linhas Aéreas in Brazil, JD.com and ASL Aviation.

PT Rusky Aero received its airline license in December and plans to launch domestic and international freighter services in July this year. The airline will operate domestic routes including Jakarta, Medan, Balikpapan, Makassar and Surabaya.

Additionally, Raindo United Services will fly international routes to Singapore, Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

Benny Rustanto, founder of Raindo United Services, said: “We believe this strategic step will allow us to benefit the community, especially the MSME (Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises) industry in Indonesia, through the seamless and sustainable connectivity logistic delivery experience of Raindo United Services.”

Raindo United Services said in a statement that it has “various related strategic partners to ensure the overall operations and administration, ranging from Indonesia state-owned oil companies, the big four of financial and valuation consultants, the largest lessor companies in the world, to well-known ground handling service providers in Indonesia and other supporting companies and agencies.”

The airline added that the aircraft are equipped with “the latest cargo systems including Unit Loading Device (ULD), oxygen tank, and refrigerator to ensure all types of commodities: Perishable Product, General Cargo, Marine Product, Dangerous Goods and Live Animals are delivered safely to the destination point.”
