What drives the cost
Sea freight is priced by volume, not weight. A large but light rattan piece can cost more to ship than a small heavy one. The cost drivers, in order of impact, are the volume of your packed cargo, the destination, and how the goods are packed.
How to estimate your volume
Measure each packed crate in meters and multiply length by width by height. That gives cubic meters, or CBM. Add all pieces together. Under roughly half a container, sharing space through LCL is usually the better option. Above that, a full container is often cheaper per unit.
Packing decides whether it arrives intact
- Custom wooden crates built around each piece, not generic boxes.
- Corner protection and layered wrapping for finishes that cannot be repaired at destination.
- Disassembly where possible, which reduces both volume and risk.
- Clear labelling on every side, because a label facing down is invisible.
Realistic transit times
From Bali, expect around two weeks to Australia, five to ten days to nearby Asian ports, and closer to five weeks to Europe or North America. Add clearance time at both ends, and remember the vessel cut off closes two to three days before sailing.

Take your buyer’s required arrival date, subtract destination clearance and delivery, subtract the sea transit, subtract the cut off, and subtract crating time. That is your real production deadline. Most late shipments are late because this calculation was never done.
