Cargo container traffic at the Ambon Container Terminal has experienced an impressive growth of 102.78% as of the third quarter of 2023. The volume of cargo containers at the Port now stands at 75,793 TEUs (Twenty-ft Equivalent Units) as at the end of September 2023, putting it on target to exceed last year’s annual figure. This significant increase is a direct result of ongoing digital transformation efforts initiated at the Port since 2019.

In a report carried by the Shipping Gazette on 30 October, Pelindo Ambon Branch was said to be thrilled to be able to announce such a remarkable achievement. Rouland Prakarsa Koswara, Terminal Head at Terminal Peti Kemas (TPK) Ambon, expressed his delight at the Port’s substantial growth,

The Container Yard at TPK Ambon covers 66,053 square meters and features a 334-meter-long dock. Its ‘Yard Occupancy Ratio’ at now stands at 40%, made possible by streamlined container management and the capability to handle up to 300,000 TEUs of cargo containers.

As part of Pelindo’s commitment to investment it has acquired a side loader unit, allowing for the stacking of cargo containers – particularly empty ones – up to seven tiers. Plans are also underway to electrify two Quay Crane Container (QCC) units to optimize loading and unloading operations.

Pelindo underwent a merger in October 2021, resulting in the formation of four subsidiary companies, each specializing in different aspects of Pelindo’s business. These subsidiaries include Subholding Pelindo Multi Terminal (SPMT) headquartered in Medan, Subholding Pelindo Solusi Logistik (SPSL) in Jakarta, Subholding Pelindo Terminal Petikemas (SPTP) in Surabaya, and Subholding Pelindo Jasa Maritim (SPJM) in Makassar.

The Ambon Container Terminal now under the management of SPTP. This strategic approach is expected to further enhance Pelindo’s performance and efficiency. The company says that as it continues to focus on these specific lines of business, it looks forward to a promising future of sustained growth and excellence.
