BBN Closes and Indonesia Airlines Opens

BBN Airlines Indonesia, which operated its first flight in Indonesia in September 2024, has officially ceased all flight routes in the country as of March 2025.

The closure was confirmed by the Acting Director General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Lukman F. Laisa. However, Laisa insisted that PT BBN Indonesia Airlines is not completely shutting down, pointing out that it is still serving unscheduled charter flights specifically for cargo.

Airfreight:
During its brief existence BBN Airlines has been providing access to a global airfreight network. They established strong partnerships with well-known cargo carriers that reached destinations worldwide.

The airline was established in August 2022 and began operating on 27th September 2024. It is a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group, a Dublin-based company that is a leading ACMI (aircraft, crew, maintenance, and insurance) service provider. PT BBN Airlines Indonesia had been operating as a scheduled commercial airline focusing on leasing, charter flights and cargo services. The airline previously operated seven flights per week on three routes: Jakarta–Surabaya, Jakarta–Pontianak, and Jakarta–Denpasar.

One Door Closes, Another Opens
Indonesia Airlines, a new airline based in Singapore, will soon operate in Indonesia.

Indonesia Airlines is owned by Calypte Holding Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based company engaged in renewable energy, aviation, and agriculture. The founder and CEO of the company is Iskandar, an Indonesian businessman born in Bireuen, Aceh. The airline will be based at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten.

In its initial operational phase, Indonesia Airlines plans to operate 20 aircraft, consisting of:
– 10 narrow-body aircraft, such as the Airbus A321neo or A321LR, and
– 10 wide-body aircraft, such as the Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787-9.

The airline will focus on international flights, serving 48 destinations in 30 countries within the first five years of its operations.

However, the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia has revealed that, as of now, PT Indonesia Airlines Group (INA) has not applied for an establishment or operational permit for the airline—also known as an Air Operator Certificate (AOC).

Acting Director General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Lukman F. Laisa, disclosed that his department has not received any permit applications or requests related to INA’s establishment and operations.
